GLOBE 2020

Exploring Culture and Leadership Worldwide

About the Project

The GLOBE 2020 Research Project extends more than two decades of collaborative research on Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE).

Initially launched in the 1990s, GLOBE became one of the most comprehensive cross-cultural studies ever conducted in the social sciences, involving over 200 researchers across 62 societies. It examined how societal culture shapes **leadership expectations, values, and organizational practices.

In this new phase—GLOBE 2020—the project builds upon its rich legacy to explore how leadership and cultural dynamics evolve in an **increasingly globalized, interconnected, and technologically driven world.

Research Leadership

GLOBE 2020 is led by Professor Mansour Javidan (Thunderbird School of Global Management) and Professor Peter W. Dorfman (New Mexico State University), two leading scholars whose work has significantly advanced our understanding of cross-cultural leadership.

Under their direction, GLOBE 2020 addresses four central research questions** aimed at capturing how leadership effectiveness is perceived and enacted across diverse cultural contexts.

Research Focus

The project investigates how societal values, globalization, and digital transformation influence modern leadership and organizational behavior. It seeks to update and refine our knowledge of:

  • How leadership prototypes and expectations vary across societies.
  • The ways cultural practices influence organizational decision-making.
  • The role of globalization in shaping leadership convergence or divergence.
  • The implications for leadership development and education in different regions.

By integrating new insights into the evolving global environment, GLOBE 2020 contributes to a more nuanced understanding of leadership effectiveness in the 21st century.

My Role as Country Co-Researcher

As a Country Co-Researcher, I am responsible for leading the data collection process and ensuring that the study reflects the cultural, institutional, and organizational realities of Peru.

This includes coordinating with local institutions, adapting survey instruments to the national context, and contributing to the comparative analysis within the global consortium.

My involvement provides an opportunity to generate valuable insights about how leadership is perceived in Peru, and how these perceptions align—or contrast—with global leadership models.

Why GLOBE 2020 Matters

GLOBE 2020 offers critical insights for leaders, educators, and policymakers** seeking to navigate multicultural environments. By understanding how leadership expectations differ across societies, organizations can design more inclusive, adaptive, and effective leadership strategies** that align with local and global realities.

This initiative not only enriches academic discourse but also provides actionable knowledge for organizations operating in diverse cultural contexts.
